I was thinking of doing 90s music because that's basically what I grew up listening to, and I love it. I also thought that maybe I would do love/heartbreak or something like that as my theme.

Loss and loneliness in blues is basically the one I've decided on, but others I was kicking around were

Topical songwriting in folk music [Folk music centered around very specific topics and events that actually occured]

Surrealism in British Invasion Blues and Rock.

Natalie: that last one seems a little broad; maybe narrow it down to one or two of those themes? I mean, you want your blog to have a focus. :- )

Kady F. I think disney would be good. I suggest camp rock or pixel perfect songs. Or maybe Jonas Brothers.

Danielle M. You should either do 50 cent or eminem. and for relationships in Rock you should do Green Day.

Jess I suggest Taylor Swift.

Audra Brittney Spears, N'sync, Backstreet Boys, or Beastie Boys.

Emilie Bookoff You should try Kanye West.

Steve S. Moody Blues or Blues Brothers. Or try Peter Paul and Mary.

Erin try Queen or Rolling Stones.

Ian try Andrew Sisters, Beatles, or any band u find on magic 106.7 or white rock 105.

And Kyle O. Try Black Eyed Peas or Daughtry.

best of luck guys!

Kady F,
I really like dreams in 20th century music. Disney music is really fun, and it's a unique idea.

Jess,
I like love and heartbreak in country. Country had some really good songs to analyze. Especially artists like Taylor Swift and Keith Urban.

Danielle M.,
I like Struggles in Rap. Rap has a lot of good lyrics. You'll just have to be careful what songs you pick, since some of them can have a lot of profanity.

Audra,
I love your genre and theme. There are a ton of love and heartbreak 90's songs with Britney Spears and Mariah Carey.

Natalie,
I really like 21st century music about love, loss, and just having a good time. It's very broad so there will be a lot of choices, which is always good.

alex g,
I like expression in modern alternative rock. I love bands like Boys like Girls and Paramore.

Ashlie Sprague,
Love and heartbreak in 20th century music is a good genre and theme. It's really broad so you have many different songs to choose from, and it won't be too difficult to do.

Kyle O,
I really like word play in rap. Rap has so much word play in it, like Eminem songs, and it woul be interesting to anazlyze.

Amanda Ward,
I like relationships in contemporary rock because it's broad, and not just limited to love and heartbreak in relationships. You can do a lot more with it.

aliciaroseperry,
I like views on "love" in rap vs alternative. It's a unique genere since you're comparing two different ones.

Kady F. said...

Jess: life struggles in rap is a unique theme but you will find a lot of good example in rap music!!

Danielle: death in rock music will entail a lot of thought into finding songs, but I definitely think it is worth it

Steve: Topical songwriting in folk music is such a unique idea! it will broaden a lot of people's minds in terms of music

Vicky: the love in showtunes idea made me smile, i love it! it is so creative, but you may run into a lot of cliches

Emily: you will not have any problems finding music that involves love, try finding unique interpretations of it within the lyrics!

Natalie: having a good time in '90s music is very creative, a lot of songs can be taken as that theme!!

Alex: love and life in modern indie is a new combination, I bet you will find a lot of songs that relate to it

Kendyl: freedom in '60s and '70s in rock music will have a lot of controversial lyrics that will be very unique!!

Ashlie: passion in R&B will have a lot of deep music that can be interpreted in many ways, it is definitely a very creative combination!

Alli: love, loss and growing up in '90s to present day music has a very broad topic that you can do so much with, and pick songs that really demonstrate what you are looking for

Amanda: i think all of your ideas are great, especially the one with folk music because i feel as if that genre is often forgotten

Kyle: word play in rap will be scoring very high points on that sheet, definitely a good idea!!

Hi classmates:)
I'm not really sure what theme to do yet but for my genre I definitely want to do turn of the century. Any ideas on what I should do for a theme? Overcoming diversity maybe... or positivity (positivism?? is that a word?)

Mel said...

Danielle, you should definitely do struggle in rap! You should do an analysis on Not Afraid by Eminem... even though its over played on the radio... i still love it!

Mel said...

Audra, such a good theme! You're gonna have soo many good songs to choose from. You better include some Britney Spears haha

Mel said...

Steve S; even though you said you already decided on loss and loneliness in blues, i think the topical theme is a really cool one too!

Mel said...

Vicky, you should do British Punk because it looks like no one else is doing that and i'd love to have the opportunity to listen to some songs from a new genre

Mel said...

Kady! Do dreams in 20th century music! You better include a Mulan song!! I'm so excited to see your disney blog!! Hope you don't get sued...

Danielle, first of all I've got a thing for music. You come up with a theme and... Bam! I'll give you an artist. And second, these are just topics to get you guys started you can always change them if need be.

Alicia, go with Katy Perry or Pussycat Dolls for your second theme. For your first theme however try either Black Eyed Peas or 3OH!3 For your third theme try Lil Wayne or T.I.

Amanda, first theme Demi Lovato. Second theme try The Who or Bad Company. Third theme try Pink or Dave Matthews Band, or maybe Bob Marley.

If you need ideas come and ask me. Or to get some music and listen to it in free time go to www.playlist.com
