I chose the first assignment. "There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meanin if it were not balanced by sadness." This quote was given by the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung.

This quote is trying to say that happiness and sadness are relative and without the other one cannot exist. If bad times are not prevelant then there is nothing to compare the good times to. Take for example someone completely unfamiliar with music. Upon hearing a completely beautiful masterpiece of music, this person would not be able to comprehend the calibur of mastery that the piece of music shows because this person has nothing to compare it to. Likewise with any other thing, there needs to be an alternative to showcase the level and depth of something.

There are people that are without the experience of sadness or bad times and cannot fully appreciate what they have. These are the truly sad people. They do not have the sense to live up what they have and enjoy what is in front of them because they assume that it will always be there. The truly sad event is when these people are stripped of what they have and are unable to cope with the loss. So what Carl Jung is saying to us is that we should take the bad days as a blessing and not a burden because they shape our personalities and build our character.

Eric Brown says
I feel education is a pointless thing that waste most of our best times of our lives. People say enjoy your childhood while you can because you will never get it back; but how are we suppose to enjoy it when were in school for three-fourths of those memories. As you move on from grade school you move up to major leagues by heading to high school where you chose your future. Some move on from high school without any train of thought to what they are going to do as they walk off that stage in a cap and gown.
As high school goes on you can tell that it changes by each year you are attending that school. You come into high school with just images of what the environment will be like. But then as years go on you start to mold into your niche of high school and start going with the flow. Freshman and sophomore year are the key years of high school were you learn all knew information you did not even know existed. Then they transfer the weight of learning to preparing. By preparing I mean for molding your future at a highly educated college atmosphere.
As you leave high school many do not know what they want to do after they finally got over that obstacle. Some go on to work full-time at a random job whereas some go off to further educate them. They feel if they go to school and learn more than what has already been taught they will get good jobs with great starting salary. I don’t believe this is how we should look at life. You’re secluding smart and dumb people for jobs based on where they go to college. Brand names are becoming what we base everything on whether it is as little as what calculator to buy to what job you are applying for. Education only complicates things and makes many various accusations about people that you do not even know. The American motto is your free to do what you want with your life but you can’t play for major leaguers if you’re still playing T-ball. Thus far bringing me to my point that high school prepares you for a pointless roller coaster ride through a place called college.

Carl Jung’s quote “There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness and the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness”. This quote has been expressed through songs like 50cents many man where he says “Some days wouldn't be special, if it wasn't for rain Joy wouldn't feel so good, if it wasn't for pain Death gotta be easy, 'cause life is hard It'll leave you physically, mentally, and emotionally scarred”. It goes to show people have similar opinions but look at it in different ways.
This is true to me because if people didn’t have bad times it wouldn’t make the good times as special. This is like the weather because if it didn’t snow or rain we wouldn’t appreciate the nice and sunny weather. It shows how people are different and if you are too used to something. It makes people realize that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side and things you might appreciate they might be used to. For example if you go to another country you may love it and they may hate it because there so used to it without a change.
Through Carl Jung’s quote there will be many people who may agree or disagree but I believe its true and its been shown especially if you’ve visited somewhere different or move there. This quote represents how so many people can have different thoughts towards things but I support the view Carl Jung has.

How does one’s educational experience change over four years of high school? Are you more or less intellectually curious as you near the end of your secondary career? Why? This question is different for everyone. Which gives it its importance. It makes you think of the life you had in high school.
Over the past four years I started off not doing my best in school. Over each year I find myself trying harder and doing better. School means more to me now than it did before. I’m less intellectually curious than I was before because I know more about things I want to know about. Most of other things I’m not really interested in I don’t care about. When I was younger I wanted to learn about everything. As I near my future I want to prepare my self so I don’t pay attention to things that wont help me.
How does one’s educational experience change over four years of high school? Are you more or less intellectually curious as you near the end of your secondary career? Why? Writing this made me think of how I was in high school. I realized I’m not interested in things that don’t benefit me. I take what I like and take it very serious and do my best at it.

I am more intellectually curious because I need to keep learning so that I can become a nurse. When I leave high school I am going to go to college. Now, I have more educational change since the past four years of high school. I am trying a lot harder in school so that I can go to college to become a nurse and get more information.
When I learn it feels really good because then I am one step closer to helping people for the rest of my life. So my educational experience has changed over four years because now that I am closer to the end I will not give up and I will be more ready to keep learning. Now, that I am getting older I am getting more curious of more things.
My main goal is to keep concentrating on my Math, Science, and English because I will need all of that to become a nurse. Now, that I am a senior in high school I am more aware of how important it is to be in school and learn all about other people and school and helping people. When I help someone it feels really great.

Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung once said “There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.” A person needs a balance between happiness and sadness. For there to be happiness, there needs to be sadness and vice versa.
Sometimes a person needs to cry and let all the tears out to make room for smiles. A person needs to deal with disappointment in order to be happy. When a person is disappointed and let down, they need to become strong and get back up. It makes a person become a better and happier person when they have been let down. Once a person goes down the only way to go is to go up. What goes up must always come down.
A tree for instance needs sunshine and rain. If there was too much rain then a tree could drown in all of the water. If there is too much sunshine then the tree could die of dryness. A tree needs rain for it to survive and grow while it also needs sunshine for the tree to survive and grow also.
Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist said this quote “There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness and the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.” It makes a person think about what they think and how a person interprets this quote. What goes up must come down. When you are happy, there also needs to be a time where you are sad to balance it out.

The quote “There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word “happy” would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness” said by Carl Jung to me means that some days you’re going to be happy, but there’s always going to be that one day when you just hate everything.
If you were always happy and you never felt any form of sadness in your life, you wouldn’t necessarily know what happy really is. So if there was never a dull moment in your life you wouldn’t really be able to appreciate the feeling of happiness. Where as if you were to have a sad moment in your life then at a later point had a moment of happiness you would be able to appreciate the happiness more because you know how bad it was to be miserable and sad.
This quote is a great quote. There are a lot of different meanings to it, I bet. This is what it means to me. I think it means you should appreciate your moments of happiness while it lasts because it’s a lot worse when you’re in a sad state.

As many come to realize, one's educational experience can change over four years of high school. The First and second years of high school, thinking about what one is going to do after graduation never comes to mind. Three years ago I never thought about what I was really interested in.
Being a senior now and having reality about to hit me in the face after graduation I finally came to realize what subjects really grab my attention. Being in a math class that deals with financial status of one’s life truly caught my interest. Looking back and being in business classes also influenced me to become fascinated in making money. Now, being older, I’ve thought and came to a conclusion that taking a math and a business class helped me in deciding what I wanted to do. It helped me become more intellectually curious about making money in the world and having a successful life.
I believe that one definitely becomes intellectually curious as they begin to move on to the real world. Everything that one has experienced through education has given one the ability to realize what one really wants to pursue their career in. Also such a curiosity can drive one to want to reach the ultimate goal to what they really want their life to become.

Carl Jung once said “There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.” This quote has a very lot of truth to it. Some examples of this are they way that wealthy people are never happy with their lives, how some people who have been through a lot and can appreciate their happiness more, and lastly how they world would be an unhappy place with out the sadness.
Along with money comes power. People who are born into money and have never had to work for their fortune are more than not, unhappy people in some way or another. They have never had to struggle for the things they want or had to worry about not having the basic necessities of life. This is an example of how you have to be sad to be happy because if you can’t appreciate luxury then you can not enjoy it and it becomes a burden to be rich.
People who have struggled and have been through hard times sometimes are able to see the good things easier. They also appreciate the things they have because they have either had to work for them or have experienced not having them and understand that everything in life is temporary. An example of someone who has overcome more obstacles then most is Maya Angelou. She has been through being poor, black, female, and with child and living paycheck to paycheck if there was a pay check. She has gone on to do such great things and has found inner happiness and contentment. Would she have been able to achieve those things if she had not struggled?
If there is nothing to compare happiness to it would not keep its meaning. It would come to mean something else then we know it. There needs to be balance between the two. Too much of either sadness or they opposite can be detrimental to any human being.

As Bob Dylan said in the song “My Back Pages”, “I was so much older then/ I’m younger than that now.” This statement is the definition of a paradox, but if the song is listened to as a whole, the idea can be seen and the statement is valid. Yet, it is open to interpretation, as to the meaning of what this line means. These lyrics could mean that he is remembering how seriously he took his childhood and that he never just stopped to watch the clouds roll by or have fun. Also, due to the timing of the album’s release it could also be a kind of story of how many of the boys that went over to Vietnam lost their innocence.
As stated, this song could be telling the tale of Dylan’s life and how his childhood was almost nonexistent. It seems as though he is talking about the fact that he forced himself to succeed and now has done so and is making up for lost time. It is also possible that he could be talking about his parents forcing him to grow up and work at such a young age to help support his family and now he is having all the fun and free time he never had as a young boy.
The lyrics in this song may also be construed as a political song. He talks about prejudice and fire and flames. Due to the fact that the album was release in the midst of the Vietnam War and many young men were no longer innocent. As many soldiers and historians will say, many of these eighteen and nineteen year-old boy came home with many delusions and not the same. So the boys were more serious and it took them very long to recover and regain a sense of normality.
In conclusion, there are two clear cut possibilities for the meaning of this song. It is very possible that Bob Dylan may never tell where he gained the concept for this song. That is what makes music so interesting to many people, is that it is open for a persons interpretations and this can make it more relatable for the listener. Even though this line in the song may be a paradox, but it makes for a very good song.

Carl Jung, a Swiss physiologist, once said, “There are as many nights as
days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a
happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness and the word 'happy'
would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.” He was referring
to the balance between dark and light, and good and evil. Without both of
these then people could not be happy, he says.

Carl Jung refers to a truly happy life having a little bit of darkness in it
to balance it out. Jung uses the analogy of days and nights to compare to
happiness and sadness. Without sadness we get no happiness and vice versa.
Every life has a bit of darkness in it, but a happy life cannot thrive without it.
We all thrive off both the light and the dark. This is what Jung meant by what
he said.

Jung emphasized the importance of balance and harmony. He stated in
his work that people rely too much on science and logic would benefit from
spirituality and appreciation of the unconscious realms. His quote focuses on
these ideas and these beliefs. His work revolved around this general idea and
understanding. Overall he stated that without darkness there is no light, and without light, there is no darkness.

#2 Educational experience changes in a various ways throughout high school, while one is in high school they take many different courses that will help them as them transition into post high school life. Some of the changes are the difficulties of the class; such as most colleges and universities want four years of English in high school from all their students. Thus, mostly all high schools have made four years of English mandatory for graduation, with each year getting more in depth then the last. Other changes would be the type of class. There are various different types of classes such as; Art, English, Math, music technology, and world language.

I feel that I am more intellectually curious then when I was when I was younger. When I was younger I was more concerned with things outside of school and my future. Now, I want to move on to college get a job and to experience new things. Also, I feel that I care more about learning new things then I did when I was younger.

Life is full of happiness and sadness that will come and go. This cannot be avoided no matter what is done. Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung said "There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness."
Happiness is simply feeling good. It’s when you don’t have any concern over a specific problem in life and carry on with your day. Many people get happy over a variety of things. Some get happy when they see their cat or when they come home from a long day at school or work. It’s the fact that different things make different people happy and this makes us both different and the same.
Life is full of happy moments. It can be as simple as guessing when the next light will change from green to red. Some are more important then others. A child’s birth usually takes priority over most happy moments in life. Life has troubles though. Sadness exists for the same reason that happiness exists, because you can’t have one without the other. Every ying has its yang.
There will always be problems in life. If life wasn’t supposed to have these problems then it would get boring. Life needs the challenges to make us better. The way we choose to deal with our own sadness determines the individual we will be later on.
Sadness has an affect on everyone. Many live their lives with sadness and sometimes get dragged in deeper. Everyone gets sad at some point. The dark side of life is usually filled with other things that lead to more sadness. Some don’t find a way out of sadness. Some people may never be happy. Others lose hope. Life has its up and downs.
The night is darkest before the dawn. The darkness eventually subsides. Happiness can’t exist without sadness, and sadness can’t exist without happiness. The problems in life will always be there. There is no escaping it. It’s up to us to simple made it through the bad times to get to the good times. It’s the way life seems to unfold.

In high school, many people have different experiences. Outside theses school walls, is a whole world full of interesting things. Some children use high school to an advantage on learning, while others just go because they have to. Educational experiences change over the course of years due to certain interests and motives. Furthering ones education always ends with much more knowledge.

Some people are not very intellectually curious. At the start of high school, at the age of fifteen, you are not generally concerned about what you will be doing in ten years. As the years quickly pass, your opinions change and you start thinking a little bit more like an adult. From experience, my educational experiences have changed over the course of these past four years. As a freshman, I was mostly concerned with doing my homework and worrying about what I was going to wear to the movies on Friday. As a senior, I have FINALLY opened my eyes to see that school is no joke. It is here to teach you many experiences. My school experiences have made me a stronger person and have prepared me for the real world. My outlook on life is much more serious than what it was 3 years ago. I look to graduation as a mark in my life that starts the rest of my life.

Being intellectually curious is a choice. I believe in going out and getting what you want. Someone that sits inside while others are out, always misses out and it’s the same as in school. If a person is intellectually curious, they are more likely to go out and achieve the goals they want to reach. I myself am a very intellectually curious individual. I would like to further my nursing career as far as I can go, and someday make a difference in this world. I am more curious about many other subjects also. These four years of school has changed me as a person in many ways. I have more drive and believe in myself much more than I ever thought possible.

While people sit at their desk and draw smiley faces and hearts, I will be out there learning and furthering my education. Although educational experiences change over time, the outcome is always the same. If you work hard at something there is always going to be a great outcome. It is never too late to get a better education.

Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist once said “There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness and the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.” His words are both very deep philosophically as well as they are true. Happiness and sadness cannot exist alone because they are defined by the contrast of each other.
Everything must exist with a polar opposite. The absence of this opposite would void the original idea of its meaning. Everyone will feel joy in life as well as they will suffer. The ‘days’ are symbolic of joy. The ‘nights’ represent sorrow. These words could be helpful in a time of suffering. One must realize that your suffering will eventually end and one will be happy. On the other hand one has to accept the fact that even though one may be happy, pain will be inevitable. One way to view happiness is the feeling when there is a complete lack of sadness. This revisits the ancient Chinese philosophy of the ‘yin’ and ‘yang’. Everything is matched by its opposite.
This concept is exemplified through many different people. If someone goes through their life without much suffering then they may not feel the happiness that others would. If someone has gone through a difficult life then they don’t take anything for granted and they feel happy when others don’t. They have a clearer vision when it comes to the reality of both anguish and joy. It is quite evident that happiness is the contradiction of sadness. There cannot be light if there is only darkness.

Throughout one’s educational experience, their outlook on wanting to be more intellectually curious may or may not change. When you first start high school your focus is on your general studies, but when you’re nearing the end of your secondary career your focus is on your future.
Generally as a freshman, students tend to be curious and want to learn more but every year students progressively get less and less curious for further education. Where do you think the term senioritis comes from? Senior year students are more or less itching to get out of High School just wanting to focus on future careers, so their curiosity for education ends. School prepares you for the future so when you’re nearing the end of it your focus becomes just that.

What is happiness? Many people have a different outlook of what being truly happy means. A Swiss psychiatrist named Carl Jung once said “There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness and the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.” His thoughts hold some powerful truth and meaning.
It is hard to comprehend what actual happiness is if you never experience a new emotion. Life has its positives and negatives, and living through the tough times gives you a deeper appreciation of the aspects of your life that help you reach true happiness. Learning from the times sadness overcomes you, can only lead to understand what makes happiness more satisfying. A common expression is, that things have to get worse before they get better. You sometimes have to suffer to find the things that mean to most to you. You can never find what makes you happy if you never have to think about it. One way to think about it is at a time when you are not happy and happiness is your goal. This gives you the opportunity to create a plan to reach your goal, and more times than not the things that make you completely happy are in your plans. Once you can mentally work through your sadness and suffering, the things you find that have the most value to you can help you reach your ultimate and realistic happiness.
In our lives we have many goals and ambitions. A goal that just about every human has is to be happy. To be completely happy is some ways a privilege. You have to earn the right to be happy by learning how life could be worse than it is now. So, Carl Jung’s quote has truth behind it. The world “happy” really does and can lose its meaning if you never have a balance of sadness. Everyone’s life is unique and because of that happiness is different to each individual. Even if a person is happy they have felt sadness at one point or another. That is one absolute way of reaching true happiness.

“There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness” is a powerful quote stated by Carl Jung. Everyone can relate to this quote, everyone has good and bad times.
This quote is both meaningful and true. If someone has never felt sadness, it would be impossible for them to feel happiness because it would be no different than what they constantly feel. Like Carl Jung stated, the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning because no one would be able to acknowledge the different feeling. “There are as many nights as days”, this means there are always ups and downs; even when times are down, they will always be balanced out with the good times. When he says “Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness” it means just that, it would not be a happy life because the darkness is necessary to distinguish the happiness in life.
Everyone has good and bad times. Although no person enjoys being down and depressed, it is necessary. This quote just puts into words how meaningful happiness is, and the importance of sadness to keep its meaning.

My educational experience has changed over the past four years because ive opened my eyes and realized what really is important and what I will need to learn for the future, out of high school. As you go through all four years in high school you progessively learn about different accedemics, your social life and life lessons. As a student entering the high school, you start off as a freshman. Freshman year is trying to get you back in the swing of things since your new to the high school atmosphere. Being a freshman is only one year out of the four that you have to concore to graduate.

Sophmore year is almost the same thing as freshman year, your just more aware of your surroundings and the atmosphere. Getting into your third year in high school you become a junior. Being a junior you get more privleges at school and your concidered an "upper classmen". You also get to study more topics then accedemics, maybe things you would want to learn about in college. As the years go by you get treated more like an adult so you'll be more prepared for life out of high school.

In the song "My Back Pages" by Bob Dylan there is a line that can be considered to be a paradox. "I was so much older then/I'm younger than that now."
This can be considered a paradox for the obvious reason that you cannot reach further youth in a literal sense. If one is old in the past they cannot become younger. The meaning of this line is obviously more in depth. By young he means to be full of life. In a sense he could be saying he took life a little too serious in the past and is beginning to open up.
Thus, This line by Bob Dylan is meant to be taken in more of a figurative sense.

But also that means to every down there is an up of course. Like she said you wouldn’t feel as happy if there wasn’t a sad that’s was why when you feel happy you feel good. Pretty much no happy if there is no sad. She also says in her quote meaning that if there has to be a counter to everything in life or it wouldn’t be like it is. Like there wouldn’t be a hot without a cold. There wouldn’t be a sunny day without a cloudy day. There wouldn’t by a snow without rain. There tons of things in life that wouldn’t be the same if they didn’t have an up side or a downside to them. That’s what I believe Carl Jung is trying to tell us with her quote.

How does one’s educational experience change over four years of high school? Are u more or less intellectually curious as you near the end of your secondary career? Why

Throughout primary school one thought that high school would be easy, fun; but as one progressed through high school, he realized that this was not so. A person go through different experiences over a four year period, it is no different in high school. 75% of those experiences aren’t based in school, these experiences may include: social, sexual etc. So, in that time period they begin to lose focus of what they went to high school for. Then at the end of high school most individuals tend to forget or don’t realize what they went to school for, by the time they do it’s too late for one to do something about it.

An individual may not find interest in what they go to school for. If persons or school administrators did something about this problem maybe there would not be so much high school failures. They find out what the student s want do so it will be interesting to the individuals and maybe that will decreased failures or even can this problem be solved?

From your freshman year to senior year your educational expierence changes in some odd ways. See freshman and sophmores do not have much to worry about besides just getting good grades. But as a junior or senior one has other things to worry about like getting ready for college and trying to graduate.
When one begins highschool in their first two years it can be hard, but at the same time its pretty easy. Its easy because one has too just sit and learn because there minds are still like sponges coming from junior high. Also they do not have the worries of trying to get to college or anything as stressing as that yet. Now in ones junior or senior year one becomes less intellectually curious because they have more to worry about. Such as one persons worry about if they can even get into college or if there (GPA) is high enough for them to even graduate from highschool. This is how one becomes less intellectually curious as there highschool career moves forward.

Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung once stated: “There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness and the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.” This quote is true on many levels. Without sadness one will never fully know what the true feeling of happiness will ever be. Secondly one will never appreciate or be thankful for something really good just happens because one would be used to it. Lastly, trying at something hard, practicing and giving your all while over coming obstacles makes reaching you goal even more rewarding.
Without sadness, one can never fully enjoy happiness. For example, my Aunt Karen was healthy her entire life but was always depressed from work. She never was extremely happy or lived life to her fullest but in spite of that, she was still blessed with good health. Up until April of 2007 she was told by her doctor that she had breast cancer. After treatment and radiation of many cycles, Aunt Karen finally beat the cancer. Now, she is very happy and does not take her health now for granted or anything for that matter, now she knows the true meaning of happiness.
Another example of unhappiness and unappreciated is, one who is spoiled and has everything given to them is more likely to have no appreciation for it as far as how much it was and the thoughtfulness that went in to get that gift. Some never understand how lucky they are and are never happy with anything they have. Thus, being spoiled can get you materialistic things but not true happiness.
Lastly, another example of
feeling real happiness is trying at something so hard, practicing and giving your all while over coming obstyles makes reaching your goal even better. With out failing you will never understand how it feels to work so hard at something and finally get it. All in all one needs to go through the bad to get to the good.
In conclusion, to have the good in anything one must experience the bad. One must always appriciate the hard times and obsycles to get them on top, it makes one feel better thus more successful. Jung made a brillient point on how one must compare and balance good with bad.

(Conclusion)
Then comes your last and most important year, senior year. As a senior you get looked up upon from everyone else in the school. You find out what your interested in so you can pursue that out of high school. Everyone says senior year is supose to be the best year out of them all, but it really turns out that it is what you make of it. Im more intellectually curious now because ive learned everything throughout all four years of being in school.

Eric Brown Says:

They are explaining that without one thing you can not have the other. With everyday becomes a night which just leads us to the next day in our life. It is a continuous cycle that makes the world seem what it is. If you are always happy then it would just be a normal state for everyone. It would be an everyday thing because there would be no other emotion to compare it to. But when you’re sad and become happy you notice the swing in emotions and that’s why your mood is better it seems in your head. You go from something that is negative to positive it’s coming off that negative that makes you notice the happiness in your life.
So with this quote it makes you think of how just being in an emotional state can cause you to be in a different one in a matter of moments. The next day of your lives would not come if night didn’t come after morning. We never notice our days in this way that without one piece of the puzzle you can not finish the rest and this makes it our lives. At the end of everything it all fits together; even if they are complete opposite they still relate and make each other come together.
