Film as Literature Class Work: 2-26

1. Log into Edline and visit our class page. Read the file: “Keough’s Oz.” As a comment to this post (click “comments” below, identify and explain 3 potential movie selections that you would be able to use for this project. Be sure to sign your comment.

2. Then, begin our collaborative work for a Shared Google document (linked here). As I mentioned, we are going to build a Glossary of Film Terminology. Type your name next to a letter of the alphabet and get started- browse the web for existing glossaries to draw from, and input terms and definitions that you feel are relevant to our course. If you exhaust the options for a particular letter, begin a new one. Keep it going.

Homework: Begin Throwback Assignment (due Tuesday, March 10): students will revisit and re-watch a childhood film and complete a reflective analysis in the style of Keough.

Beauty and the Beast-
This use to be my favorite Disney Princess and I haven't seen this movie in a really long time.
Space Jam-
My brother and I use to watch this movie all the time on a VCR and can not even remember the last time I watched it.
Annie-
I have not seen this movie in so long and a new version just came out so it would be a good idea to see the original again.

I would re watch
-The Incredibles because I have not seen this movie in years and it is really good.
-The Chronicles of Narnia because the movie is really deep and there is a lot of symbolism in it.
-Peter Pan because I don't remember much about it.

Mulan- I don't think I appreciated how awesome Mulan was for her time and may now actually be able to not be confused the difference in American and Chinese culture.

Monster's Inc.- I may have new found respect for the story line now being older and understanding things like corporal corruption and prejudiced.

A Bug's Life- I feel like there are some jokes or references that went over my head when I was little.

I would like to re-watch
The Spongebob movie
Monsters inc.
Toy Story
because these are movies I grew up with and really enjoyed when I was a child, so I would like to see them again and see how they have changed from when I was younger.

1. The Lion King was one of my favorite Disney movies, and I haven’t seen it since I was very young, so I didn’t fully grasp all of the elements of it.
2. Treasure Planet was an animated adaption of Treasure Island that I enjoyed as a child, and have not seen since.
3. The Fox and the Hound was another Disney film that I enjoyed but haven’t seen in years, and would like to re-watch since I don't remember much of it.

1. The Iron Giant because it is an important cultural touch stone. It symbolizes both the argument of nature vs. nurture and the cold war all in one movie.
2. The lion King because it is about a young king coming of age to do his duty to save his country from Nazi hyenas.
3. The Road to El Dorado simply because it is an entertaining movie about two con artist who discover a city of gold in the new world.
