Grade 3 Writing Partnership
Honors seniors: we have begun a writing partnership with Mrs. Kefor's grade 3 students. There is no doubt that these young students benefit from your letters. Besides your modeling proper grammar, spelling and usage, they certainly enjoy participating in a dialogue with students your age. Is their any reciprocal benefit? What do you gain from the experience? Are you enjoying this process? Is it worth the 15 or so minutes per week we devote to it?

What Mr. Dewar said. Minus the "let me know how its goign part." Its going great. Evan is champ, even though his favorite sport is... bowling.

I think that it is worth doing because it kind of sets me back to a time where there was a lot less stress and a lot more fun. I think we get the benefit to see how far we have come from being in third grade to where we are right know as a high school senior when graduation is soon around the corner. I think that these writing partners are a great and useful idea.

I really do enjoy writing to Meghan once a week; I found that we actually have a lot in common. I think it is interesting to see different things through the eyes of a third grader. I believe the most important part of this process is that the kids are so excited to hear back from our class each week and I think we should definitely continue writing to them all.

I think the writing partnership is a very beneficial and enjoyable activity. The concept of high school students writing to younger kids is a great way for them to learn and have fun at the same time. I'm really glad the kids are so excited to hear from us every week. I also think we should continue to write the class.

I think the writing partnership with the third graders is a great idea! I'm personally very fond of it because I, myself, want to major in Elementary Ed in college and am currently internshipping in a third grade class at L.G. And I, as crazy as this may sound, look forward to hearing back from my buddy Jake (or J-man, or Hairy Potter) probably as much, if not more than he looks forward to my own response. I love the idea that we're doing has the ability to help kids write better, while gaining confidence to do so, and feel important, knowing that someone older than them cares about what they think and say. My buddy Jake, for instance, didn't even send in a first entry and now he's writing back every time...even if it's in the midst of pretending to be various characters, telling me I have the wrong number, writing song lyrics, and eating dirt...I love it, because I know that even if it's the smallest of all kinds, I'm still impacting his life in a positive way that matters and is most definitely worth the 15 or so minutes we devote to this, each week...if not more.
I really like doing this every week. It is definitely worth the 15 minutes per week. I like helping younger students, and I think they really like it too.

I personally enjoy writing to the younger kids, and I agree that it is a great project. I learned by example when I was younger, and I honestly think that these kids will do the same. Like Alicia wrote, it also reminds me of the way life was when I was a kid, and how things were a lot simpler and more fun. Overall, I do like the project, and I hope that these kids can benefit from what we write.
This sounds like such a great and fun project! I wish I was in your class, or better yet, a 3rd grader who gets letters from a high-schooler!
I think the whole thing is really cool. I enjoy reading what Joey has to say, and a lot of the stuff is funny to read because as a kid the vocabulary is totally different. I also like seeing the kid evolve as a writer through each entry as he gets more excited and each time writes longer and longer entries. The project is cool, and it's good to be able to relax for a good fifteen minutes and actually "enjoy" something that Kefor has us do where we don't get the inevitable 87. Yeah i said it.
