Meeting Mr. Majok

Last week, former Lost Boy Franco Majok visited our interdisciplinary freshmen students and discussed the history and politics of Sudanese genocide, his personal experiences and his new campaign to build schools in his village of Wunlang. Thanks again to Franco Majok for his visit to NHS.

Meeting Mr. Majok was a great experience for me. His presentation was filled with many interesting facts we had already learned, but I was fascinated with the pictures he had shared compared to Mr. Barth’s presentation when he arrived to the village to adopt his son. Mr. Barth’s pictures seemed a lot more realistic than Majok's. I never really thought that Sudan was that bad, but apparently Majok’s village he grew up in was very very poor. I hope Majok's wish comes true and he is able to build the school within three years. I also hope we have great success at our school helping him achieve that goal.

Meeting Mr. Majok really helped me understand what the Lost Boys had to endure and what we can do to help the people of Sudan.

Meeting Mr. Majok was quite an interesting experience, although it would have been a little more helpful if he talked more about his past and his memories instead of just about his trip to his home village. Although it was interesting to hear about his foundation, I still would have liked to hear about how he feels about what is happening in Sudan. However, that doesn’t mean I enjoyed the experience any less.

Mr. Majok speaking to our classes was a great experience. He told us so many things, but most of us already knew most of it because we had been learning about the topic in our history and English classes. Having him there was better then any lesson though, he actually made it personal. One thing he is doing is trying to build a school in his home village. Majok seemed to be a very happy man even though all he’s gone through, and i am very happy he was able to come.

Meeting Mr. Majok was a great experience. Helping to build a school in Wunlang is a great idea since a lot of the people need a good education. I never knew about all the suffering that is still occurring in Sudan, and making a school will be such a great difference to all the people. To have an actual building, instead of sitting outside writing on the dirt with sticks, the children will be very proud. With all the ideas he has about the school seems like he is getting a lot of help, so I hope he has great success in making the school within three years.

It was interesting to see that Mr. Majok traveled up through Sudan and Egypt. This differs from the book “What is the What” because he was able to read a map and then travel the safer route unlike Valentino who traveled southeast to Ethiopia. Also when he told of his travels back to his village, it taught me just how badly families have it over there. I really appreciated his visit and hope that we can help the village of Wunlang.

Being able to listen to Mr. Majok was an amazing experiance. I really enjoy being able to hear an experiance of a survivour first hand. Hearing about his town really makes me want to help his organization. Even though Mr. Barth's presentation helped Franco was great.

Meeting Mr majok was a good experience for me. I never thought that a "lost boy" would of came to my school or that we would be learning about it at all. I really liked learning about something that I never really knew about. I think its great how Mr Majok is going back to the place he grew up in and help build a school. hopefully people will donate and help out and he will get it done in 3 years or less.

Meeting Mr. Majok made me understand that there are good people in the world who really do want to help others. His presentation covered things that we had already learned about, but the pictures were incredible. Hopefully some day Mr. Majok continues his efforts in making Sudan a better place.

Meeting Mr. Majok was a very good experience. It is much better to actually have someone talk to you who has seen what has happened first hand. He showed us video clips, pictures, and more which helped picture how poor the villages really are.

I am really glad that we got to experience meeting Mr. Majok. Meeting someone that has gone trough all of the things that we read about. But, Meeting him really gave me a new outlook about the situation in Africa, it really personalized it.
