It's obvious that I'm going to use country and some type of love, so please let me know what you like and if you have any suggestions please let me know :) Thanks!

For music, im really into r&b,pop. i like country but i only real listin to Taylor. Or maybe ill decide to go into the opposite direction with my theme and music. If you have good ideas let me know:)

OKay so i just thought of another idea. If i dont know what to do for love then i want to do changes that the world goes thru. And once again i dont know much about any other kind of music except rap and pop and r&b. I really like the song "Where is the Love" by Black Eyed Peas. Or "My President is Black" by Young Jeezy. I think that would be different.

-Tamika

Caroline H.-try "another brick in the wall" by Pink Floyd for protest
Caroline-how about "fresh feeling" by The Eels for option 2
Shannon Cap-look at "american soldier" by Toby Keith for patriotism
Ashley G.-it seems to me that your best bet might just be plain old "love" in country music to leave your options open as to what kind of love or what aspect of it you can choose songs for.

-Scott A.

I was thinking of focusing on country music too. Some ideas I have are a theme of a one-wayed romance, parent/child relationships, or unconditional love.

Ok so sorry about all my comments, I didn't think they were getting posted so I kept trying :/ Anyways, Scott, society/ life in rock music might be cool and different. Carolyn, growing up and change in 90s rock music would be really fun and different. Caroline, psychology in indie pop music would be challenging but I think it would turn out really good. Shannon, pain and lonliness are really common in country so I know you'd find a lot. And lastly, Tamika, I like your concepts and I think if you ventured a little from Taylor, you would like what you find! You can probably find change in country and if you want some help, you can ask because I love country.

ha, thanks ashley. if you have any suggestions about country music just tell me, Im interested. Im open to anything.

Carolyn H. said...

Conor, I like your idea of fun/parties in rock music; alot of Blink 182 music will work for that. Tamika, your idea of "what the world goes through" would work great with rap/R&B music. "Where is the love" is a good example of social issues in the world. Scott, rebellion rock would be a good theme to look for in alternative and punk rock of the 80's and 90's. Ashley, I like your theme for "blissful love in country music", I think you would have alot of options if you chose that.

another idea of mine...since i didnt know we were supposed to post three ideas at once...is escape...also in modern day rock and alternative music. another idea is lost love in acoustic music.

i was thinking maybe

love/beatles songs
drug influences on todays music

I believe im going to go with sufferage in metal, but independence in rock and history in hard rock/metal are a close second and third.
-Coren G.

Connor - I think that war in country might be your best choice. It seems that a lot of people are using country for a genre and you might be able to bounce song ideas off of one another.

-Scott A.

Anonymous said...

I was thinking
-anger with the goverment in Rock
-Passion in Rock
-the end of days in politcal rock
-E. McCormick

ChadMc$$$ said...

Hey Ashley, you've got a good idea with the country music genre. Try Toby Keith and Garth Brooks. I'm pretty sure love is a theme in just about every country song, so you should have a lot of choices.

Scott A. said...

Whoever posted "hgggh," I love you.

Shannon Cap said...

To Ashley G; i like the idea of young love but it may be very limited as far as love goes, i think that blissful love may be the best choice for your theme..Maybe try Kenny CHesney's me and you, Kenny hass a lot of good love songs

For Tamika i do not think that you should go with country music if you only like Taylor because she only has so many songs and your blog would become boring. Go with r&b and pop because thats what you enjoy listening to...Maybe try heartbreaks in hip hop, maybe Neyo

Connor i think that fun/ parties in rock music would be a good theme because you can play around with that and it gives you a great varitiey of songs

Jackie i like the idea of parent/ children relationships because it is different. Many country songs focus on family and the type of realtionships that they have with one another.Try song Alan Jackson

ChadMc$$$ said...

Scott - Look to the 1960s for society/life events in rock music. All those protest songs are perfect for that topic. (But don't do too many, because that might be my topic, too. I'm serious, i will find you.)

Ashley said...

Jackcie, unconditinal love in country music would be a really good topic. You could try "lost in this moment" by Big and Rich or maybe "Amazed" by Lonestar. Connor, if you wanted to do war in country music, "Letters from home" by John Michael Montgomery.

Ashley G

Alex Grimes said...

Tamika, i dont now if you should do a theme like a girl likeing a guy and him not likeing her back because there are not many songs that i can think of that have that story line, but if you can think of songs then that would be a cool idea. You could def do something with love though!

-Alex. G

Shannon Cap said...

Scott A i like the idea of rebellion in rock music you will have many different song choices

Alex Grimes said...

Shannon, i think you should def do pain in country because so many country songs have to do with pain and sorrow. You could prob even tie in loneliness and pain together because they are somewhat similar. But good ideas!

Brandon M said...

Caroline i would stick with Classic rock

Scott A. said...

Brandon M definately check out 60's rock as a genre. it's a great time period for any of your themes.

Parke MacLean said...

My genre- Point of View in Celtic Music. :)

@Ashley G.- Perhaps "Love/Heartbreak in Country Music." That will allow you to use all of the styles you listed.

@Shannon Capabianco: Maybe "Pain in Country Music" because I think suffering might fall under the category of pain. If you feel stronger about patriotism, then just use "Patriotism in Country Songs"

@Connor: Fun/Parties sounds good

Caroline said...

Scott A: rebellion in rock would be a theme that would have a good amount of stuff for it
ashley G: heartbreak in country music would be another topic that would have a good amount of songs- although it is kind of stereotypical and associated a lot with country music. blissful love might be a good way to break that stereotype.
Carolyn H: protest songs sounds the best to me!
Shannon C: patriotism in country music sounds like a really good theme-genre with a lot of potential.
Connor M: fun/parties in rock sounds wicked fun and you'll have a myriad of songs to choose from.
Tamika: your second idea/comment sounds the best. i recomend going with that one
Jackie: unrequited {one way} love in country music sounds really nice. i'd love to see what you find.

Alex Grimes said...

Jackie, i like your idea about parent/child relationships because i can think of a number of songs that have that theme. One song is that song by Tim McGraw: my little girl.

-Alex G.

Tamika Mariah said...

well cherries, i think that you should do love. I like that idea because most of us are doing love and thats what a majority of songs are writtin abou. I think you should consider other artist besides Kanye. I cant think of any songs that he made with love besides heartless. . . .? I think you should focus around pop and r&B

-Tamika

Mike C. said...

I'm probably going to go with either
1. Rebellion in punk rock. or
2. Revolt in 70's music.

Coren G. said...

Alex, I think that sorrow is a great topic for country music. I recommend th son "Whiskey Lullaby" if you decide to do sorrow.

Ashley said...

Alex, I like the story idea!! Try "Oh my my my" by Taylor Swift, it would be perfect. Eric, the end of days in political rock is very original and quite gloomy. I think it would be a very interesting concept though; a big challenge!

Coren G. said...

Shannon, you could probably combine pain and loneliness into one theme.

Jason... said...

E. McCormick, anger with the government in Rock is a pretty good idea. There are plenty of rock songs with that theme.

Gina, love/Beatles songs is a good idea as well. So many Beatles songs about love.

Connor, you should choose option 1. In modern country songs there are a lot of ones about war.

Shannon Cap said...

Cherie you could do the emotions in kayne west songs so you arent completely limiting yourself, "heartless" would be one

Alex for your story telling theme look at Johnny Cash since he tells stories in his music

Chad i like the 60's theme not too many people are branching out to do music of the past

Gina i think the drug influence theme is better, most rap in modern day has to do with drugs even if they dont directly mention a drug

E. McCormick i like passion in rock the best out of your 3 themes

ChadMc$$$ said...

Connor, I like the idea of partying in rock music. Definitely include Fight for Your Right (to Party) by the Beastie Boys. Good song.

Caroline said...

Brandon M: sounds good!
Chad: love in 80's rock would be hysterical/ awesome! any one of those would be great.
Eric M: passion in rock sounds like your best bet/ awesome.

Scott A. said...

ChadMc$$$- definately go for social commentary in sixties music; there's a ton of songs out there.

Alex Grimes said...

Ashley, i love your idea about young love because Taylor Swift has so many songs that have to do with it, like "Love Story". Blissful love would be good too because there are a number of country songs that are about being in love, like Eric Church: i love your love the most.

-Alex G.

I'm pretty sure that my genre is going to be classic rock (maybe the 1970s or 1980s)but i'm not sure about my theme. I'm leaning towards good times (fun and parties) but i was also thinking of maybe depression/misery or heartbreak.

My theme would probably be bad hook-ups in pop music. Kind of like Chris Brown and Rihanna or
P!nk. I am also thinking about leaning towards depressive feelings. Kind of like Green Day, Papa Roach, or maybe Nick Lachey. Or deep feelings of love and crushes on someone in either classic rock, pop, or rap. Kind of like Brittney Spears, Lifehouse, or maybe even Jonnas Brothers, and Pussycat Dolls.

1)rebellion in pop
2)love in classic rock or pop
3)heartbreak in pop or country

I am mostly into pop but sometimes I will listen to classic rock or country. Over the summer I had to listen to clasic rock and country while at work but in the car it's either sports, or oldies.Normally in the car with my mom it's sports or tapes from old radio talk shows. But when I'm with my dad in the car it's always classic rock. When I get some time to my-self it's usually pop or whatever is playing on Kiss 108. On the bus or in shop though it's a whole mix of these categories except for old radio talk shows.Sometimes all we listen to in shop is whatever the IT Department is playing, which most of the time is pot luck.

Carolyn H. said...

Chad, I like choice 1. You'll be able to find a lot of anti-war and protest songs from the 60s, especially if you look at folk music. Alex, I really like your idea of storytelling in country music; you should be able to find alot of that in old country songs. Erik- I like the idea of passion in rock but maybe you should narrow it down to a specific era or sub-genre of rock? Meg, do lost love in acoustic because its original and there are plenty of acoustic versions of rock songs you could use.

Jackie B said...

Shannon C- I like the idea of pain in country music, but I also think that hope in country music will give you a lot of ideas too. Carrie Underwood has a lot of songs about hope. Either of those are great though =).

Alex G- Hope in country music can also be a good idea for you too. Or may'be songs about moving on, I know Rascal Flatts writes about that in some of their songs.

Megan K- I really like your idea of rebellion in modern day rock, but may'be if you just keep it as rebellion in all rock you can find music throughout the years that show rebellion. Elvis Presley and the 60s illustrates kids rebelling against traditional style music.

Tianna- If you decide to do heartbreak in country music you can look at a lot of Toby Keith songs he writes a lot about break ups.

Connor Mc- I think war in alternative rock could give you some good ideas. Also, Theres a band called Anti Flag that writes about the American Government and America's wars. Any genre involving war though can offer a lot.

Brian A. said...

Connor!: I'm thinking of doing Fun/parties in rock too! I think that you'll be able to do a lot with this theme and it definitely fits your personality dude!

Brandon: After seeing you analyze the Internationale, I think that Social and political upheaval and theme for you.

Scott: You're obviously into rock lol so i think you should do 2 or 3because i think that those would be easier to analyze than 1. also, if you do three I know there's a song called "rock rebellion" by bang camaro that would probably fit in pretty well.

Ashley: I'm not big into country music but i know that it will be easy for you to use any of those themes with it. But if you're having trouble choosing one, maybe you should just use love in country music so that you can use all three themes.

Caroline: I love classic rock so I personally would go with that haha. But i don't think you should worry that it has been done because you're blog will still be original.

Tamika: Since you already have an idea of a song in mind, I think it would be a good idea to choose that theme and genre and go from there, especially since we have clear country fans in our class who could give you some suggestions throughout the semester.

Jackie: Again, I'm not big into country music, but it seems that there are a lot of country songs about love, so I would go with love as a theme if I were you.

Tianna: It seems that heartbreak in country would be a good theme/genre. However, I love rock/metal but you don't have a theme with it. However, if you really want to do something with that genre, I encourage you to do so because rock/metal songs have many themes, especially rebellion/anger/lonelines, etc. I think bands like metallica are good for metal in this project.

Chad: I love the 80s and I know it would be easy and a great idea to use love as the theme for this. So I would go with that. But then again I don't know much about the other two genres.

Gina: I like the idea of love in beatles songs. However, you might want to pick a more broad music genre rather than just limit yourself to the band. However, if you really love the beatles, I know that you could definitely do a great job with love in beatles songs.

ChadMc$$$ said...

Caroline - I'm not sure what Indie Pop music is, but I'm pretty sure no one else is gonna do that, so I like it.

Megan - You have a wicked good genre to go with your theme. Rebellion comes up a lot in rock. You'll be able to find a bunch of good songs.

Tianna - Your country/heartbreak idea is great. I think that just about every country song is about heartbreak and stuff like that, so you should be able to get a lot.

Tamika - That "Changes the World Goes Through" is really unique. I like it, plus Hip/hop is a really good music genre for that kind of topic. You might wanna look to the past for some perspective, too.

ChadMc$$$ said...

Megan - I just thought of this: if you wanted to look into 90s Rock/ Grundge, look up some Nirvana songs. They are all about teenage rebellion.

Jackie - That "One Way Romance" idea sounds really interesting. You'll probably find a lot of slow, sad country songs with that theme.

Gina - You could even do drug influences on the Beatles music. That would give you some great songs.

Erik - "Anger with the Government" in Rock is a good topic, and you could even expand it to include the last few decades and how the anger has developed over time and for all the different reasons.

CaroLYN h said...

Lindsay G., i like the theme of romance in 50s music. you should check out some elvis and maybe some early rock 'n' roll. Gina drug influences in todays music would be an interesting topic, but you should also check out some early 90s hip/hop and rap for some good examples if you want to broaden your genre.

Jackie B said...

Carolyn H- I really like the idea of 1980s protests songs, I'm sure you could also find a lot of protest songs from the 70s about the Vietnam War.

Caroline- I am not too familiar with indie pop music, but romance is a strong subject in all music so if you choose that Id like to see what its all about. lol

Tamika- If you decide to focus on R&B, definitely look at Mary J. Blige songs. She writes a lot about love such as her song "Be without You".

Cherie- Kanye West writes about a variety of ideas in his songs. If you like heartbreak look at his song Heartless.

Gina- I really like the idea of drug influences on modern music... just look at Eminem or Lil Wayne songs!

Connor Mcl said...

1) Scott A. - rebellion in rock is a good category and choice. you could use the song "We're not gonna take it" by twisted sister.

2.) Tianna - im thinkin more heartbreak in country because i hear those types of songs on the aradio a ton and i know you can find tons of songs to related to your choice.

3.)Shannon C. - pain in country is a good one. Theres always people going to war songs in country im sure you can find many choices with your topic.

4.)Chad - love in eight's rock will get you alot of good songs.

5)Gina - i would suggest a topic like -" change in people in todays music" for example Dead and Gone by T.I is a good one where he learns from his mistakes.

Connor Mcl said...

9)Parke - point of view in celtic music sounds great.

10)Brandom m. Social And Political Upheavel and Revolution is gonna be a ride.
