1. Compose a paragraph that encapsulates your immediate metacognitive thinking regarding the paper bag drawing. Save your writing for your second metacognitive reflection (due date upcoming).
2. Review the MLA handout attached to Edline.
3. Review your options for master copies. Complete at least 2 compositional sketches in your sketchbook before the end of the period (these should contribute to your third set of study pages). It is wise to create a folder that includes a collection of high-pixel images for easy retrieval.

As far as the paper bag goes I really feel as if mine is unfinished. I have this horrible habit of being an absolute perfectionist and t often stresses me out whenever I work because of the fact that I am the one who made the piece, I can see every flaw I made in drawing it others cannot. I know that my artwork is generally pretty good and is constantly improving with practice; however it never seems to feel good to me for some reason. I feel as if on my bag some of the shadows could use work and I went way too light with my value scale. The cast shadow seemed really off and the overall proportions of the bag were kind of bad as well. I really feel like I needed more time on this assignment because I know where these issues are and I know how to fix them and now I cannot stop thinking about them every time I imagine the bag. It just seems that no matter how much I am complimented by everyone, I will never really feel any of my work is “finished”.

My thoughts on the paper bag drawing are mixed. I think that I f I was more experienced with drawing so that I could draw faster then I would have be able to spend more time on my building value and edging. I need more time to work on the details because I had trouble making my lines look three-dimensional. I need to work on my ability to use contrast to make my lines convex of concave and not just a mark on the paper. I also need to work on my shading so the it looks like shadow and not scribbles.

In the paper bag drawing there are many different elements that are included in the process. The edging was very important in order to make it realistic looking. The shading and wrinkles also made it realistic. The cast shadow’s significance is to make it look like the lighting is coming from a certain angle. The background and foreground make a deliberate contrast between the background and the object in focus.

I feel like I could’ve made the shadows on the paper bag darker but I liked the way the bag crinkled and how the shadows looked in the end. I also feel like I should’ve spent a little longer on the background so the shadows would blend together more. I think that graphite dust could’ve helped. Other than that, I’m not sure what else I can say about my paper bag.

In the paper bag drawing I had some strengths and weaknesses. I was good at the block in and the attention to detail, however my shading, edging and contrast needs work. I could not get the darkest dark, and my shading scale was way off. Thus the contrast in my piece which would have added to the realistic affect lacked in every aspect. I need to go through the scale better and work on the way I draw or show the light hitting the bag. Also, I should put a background to add to the contrast and realistic affect. I did however have a good realistic look and even though my shading was dull, it was all in the right place, just waiting to be darkened. I feel if I had more time I could have completed this piece with all fours with the help of my drawing instructor.
I am fairly satisfied with my paper bag drawing. I definitely had trouble with the detail of the creases because there were so many of them and my bag was complex. I do wish that I made my background darker to add more contrast from the paper bag and a slightly darker foreground. I also think my shadow needs to be darker. Overall, I think my bag’s contrast was strong and that my highlights stood out well.

On my paper bag, I think I could’ve done much better now that I’ve seen everyone else’s work. My shading was pretty good, I think. I should’ve cross hatched more so it looked even. Also, I need to improve on my contrast. The lights need to be lighter and the darks need to be darker. Plus, I should’ve used a background and shadow. But besides those I think I did okay.

The paper bag:
My thoughts while creating the paper bag, by creating the paper bag starting with the darkest darks actually made creating the shading easier. The darkest darks in the folds paired with a lighter value near it, made the folds look more realistic. By blending the darks into lighter values had a positive effect on the bag by making the light source realistic. I learned that when you create a background it adds more to the composition then not having one.

The paper bag drawing was extremely interesting for me because I felt as though I had to take a step back before I went forward. I feel as though my final copy was okay but there are still a lot of adjustments I need to make. It took a long time for me to complete my paper bag and a lot of effort but I still think my drawing are still not where they need to be for this class. One thing I noticed about the last two, drawings is that they don’t look good when we do a group reflection on it. You mentioned to the class that you need to look at the sketch from a far to test if it actually looks good. Hearing this, I thought this is what went wrong with the sphere. So as you can imagine, I took more observations from farther away than I did last time and it helped because I was able to make a few adjustments but still when it got to the time where we present our artwork, mine looked worse and worse the more I looked at. Even though I feel like I improved from my last drawing, my art is still not where I want it to be. Luke Kane

In the drawing of the paper bag you are coerced to propose many different elements, such as shadowing, outlining, the block in and realism. With these involved all at one time you make the ultimate drawing. With the most unique process. If you do not have these pure qualities then the drawing will not come out to its best potential. Simple steps that u take into consideration are the same ones that will make the best drawing at the end. If you take your time and precaution it will always look good as long as you have spent the valued time on that particular drawing.
